Sullivan & Cromwell Advises AbbVie on Deal: Business of Law

Sullivan & Cromwell LLP represents AbbVie Inc., which agreed to buy Shire Plc for approximately £ 32 billion ($ 54.8 billion), making it the youngest U.S. healthcare company to increase its tax residence in a record increase of Branch business relocated abroad. Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP advised Shire.

The New York-based Sullivan & Cromwell team on the transaction includes: Matthew G. Hurd, Mergers and Acquisitions; Matthew M. Friestedt, Executive Compensation and Benefits; and Steven L. Holley, Antitrust Law.

Former Deputy Director of the MSRB, Lanza, returns to Greenberg Traurig

Ernesto A. Lanza, former associate director of the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board, returned to Greenberg Traurig LLP as a shareholder in his public finance practice in the Washington office.

While at the MSRB, Lanza led the development of policy initiatives to regulate the municipal securities business of broker-dealers and municipal advisors, the company said in a statement.

Morgan Lewis appoints Hugh Tanner as managing partner in Houston

Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP has named energy lawyer Hugh E. Tanner as managing partner of the Houston office, succeeding Brady Edwards, who has led the office since it opened in 2010

2007.

Tanner, who joined Morgan Lewis in 2008, focuses on complex trade disputes with an emphasis on the oil and gas industry. He led the Morgan Lewis team last year responsible for dismissing cases filed against Schlumberger Ltd. subsidiary MI Swaco that came from the Deepwater Horizon 2010 offshore rig blowout in the Gulf of Mexico .
