Reappointment of 3 Commissioners to Judicial Appointments Commission

The following people have been reappointed as commissioners of the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) for a three-year term.

The reappointed are:

  • Brie Stevens-Hoare (professional lawyer commissioner)
  • Sarah Lee, (Professional Attorney Commissioner)
  • Your Honorary Judge Anuja Dhir QC (Circuit Judge Commissioner)

Brie Stevens-Hoare and Sarah Lee started their new term on April 9, 2021. HHJ Anuja Dhir QC will begin her new term on June 9, 2021.

JAC is an independent body that selects candidates for judicial office in courts in England and Wales and some courts with UK jurisdiction. Candidates are selected based on their merit through fair and open competition.

JAC commissioners are appointed by Her Majesty the Queen on the recommendation of the Lord Chancellor in accordance with Appendix 12 (1) of the 2005 Constitutional Reform Act. The appointment of commissioners complies with the provisions of the 2013 Judicial Apppointment Commission Ordinance.

Biographies

Brie Stevens-Hoare

Brie has been a lawyer since 1986; Brie was named Queen’s Counsel in 2013 and Bencher of Lincoln’s Inn in 2018. She is the current Chair of the Property Bar Association and the Working Group of the Bar Council Leadership Program. Brie sits as a fee-paying judge of the First-Tier Tribunal, Property Chamber (entry in the land register).

Sarah Lee

Sarah was admitted to the bar in 1990 and spent most of her career with Slaughter and May, where she was head of the Disputes and Investigations Group until 2020. Sarah is an accredited mediator for the Center for Effective Dispute Accreditation and Governor of the Cripplegate Foundation. In January 2021, she became the non-executive director of the Financial Ombudsman Service.

HHJ Anuja Dhir QC

Anuja was appointed to the bar in 1989, Anuja was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2010 and Circuit Judge in 2012. Anuja is currently a judge at the Central Criminal Court and is entitled to sit at the Appeals Court of the Criminal Department. Anuja is currently: Tutor Judge for the Judicial College; a governor of Haberdasher Borough Academy School; a trustee for the mental health charity – A Place 2B; and a trustee of the Mansion House Scholarship Fund.
