Raleigh, NC Governor Roy Cooper announced four court appointments in state and district courts.
“These officers bring years of legal experience and knowledge to the bank,” said Governor Cooper. “I am grateful for your willingness to serve the people in our state.”
Governor Cooper made the following appointments:
The honest Eula Reid serving as District 1 Supreme Court Justice for Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans counties. Judge Reid will fill the vacant seat created by the resignation of the Honorable JC Cole. Judge Reid has served as District Judge since 2007. She previously served as Assistant District Attorney in the District Attorney’s Office and Associate Professor at Elizabeth City State University. Judge Reid received her Bachelor of Arts from Elizabeth City State University and her Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University School of Law.
Jacqueline Grant as a Supreme Court Justice in Judicial District 28, Buncombe Borough. Grant will fill the vacant seat created by the resignation of the Honorable Marvin Pope. Grant is a partner at Roberts & Stevens, PA in Asheville. She previously served as president of the North Carolina Bar Association and president of the 28th Judicial District Bar Association. Grant received her BS from Western Carolina University and her Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina from the Chapel Hill School of Law.
Diane surgeon serving as District Judge in District 16B for Robeson County. The surgeon will fill the vacant space created by the resignation of the Honorable Judith Milsap Daniels. The surgeon is a solo practitioner with the law firm Surgeon, PLLC, and serves as an attorney for the Guardian ad Litem. Previously, she was Assistant Public Defender at Robeson County Public Defender Office and Managing Attorney at Lumbee River Legal Services. The surgeon received her Bachelor of Arts from Johnson C. Smith University and her Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
Debra L. Massie as District Judge for District 3B for Carteret, Craven, and Pamlico Districts. Massie will fill the vacant seat previously occupied by the Honorable Clinton Rowe, who was elected to the Supreme Court bench. Massie is a partner at Wheatly, Wheatly, Weeks, Lupton & Massie, PA. She previously served as a Defense Counsel for the Carteret County’s Public Defender. Massie received her Bachelor of Arts from Wake Forest University and her Juris Doctor from Campbell University School of Law.
