TALLAHASSEE – Senate President Joe Negron said he will be stepping down from his law firm to make sure he doesn’t have any potential conflicts of interest.

Negron worked for the Gunster law firm, a large corporate law firm advocating the Florida legislature. Negron’s latest financial disclosure shows that he made nearly $ 226,000 with the company in 2015.

Negron said in a statement that he has reached a “crossroads” in his political career where his belief in advancing law has the “potential for a possible perception of conflict” with his job.

The Stuart Republican is pushing an aggressive agenda, including an offer to purchase 60,000 acres of land and build a reservoir south of Lake Okeechobee to reduce lake runoff that has led to algal blooms along the coast.
