Federman & Sherwood Announces Update to Class Action Lawsuit Against Robert Baffert and Zedan Racing Stables

On May 13, 2021, a group of horse players placing bets on the 2021 Kentucky Derby filed an alleged class action lawsuit against Robert Baffert, the trainer of the horse that finished first in the race, Medina Spirit, and against the owner of the horse, Zedan racing teams. The lawsuit is currently pending in the Central District of California.

At a Sunday press conference (via Lexington, KY., WLEX Television Station) it was announced on May 8th that Medina Spirit tested positive for the banned drug betamethasone, an anti-inflammatory steroid, in a post-race test. That post-race positive drug test has now been officially confirmed by a second sample requested by Robert Baffert, paving the way for the likely disqualification of Medina Spirit from the Kentucky Derby.

If Medina Spirit is disqualified, the runner-up will be in the race, Mandaloun will be first, and the third-place will be runner-up, and so on and so on, with each horse advancing in the final results of the race. The owners of these horses as well as the trainers and jockeys receive the corresponding share of the wallet. Unfortunately, the bettors who bet on the horses that actually won the game that did not dop will be left with nothing again.

This lawsuit was brought with the intent of cleaning up racing, protecting the horses, and representing the horse players and fans who are being completely ignored. Without the horseplayers, horse racing would not exist.

If you would like to be the lead plaintiff in this class action lawsuit, please contact us and refer to Case Number: 2: 21-cv-04045.
