The Day – Jay Levin joining Suisman Shapiro law firm

New London attorney Jay Levin has joined Suisman Shapiro, a law firm specializing in government advice, the firm said on Friday.

Last month Levin, a former mayor and active member of the city’s Democratic Party, left the high-profile Hartford lobbying firm Levin, Powers & Brennan, which he co-founded in 1991.

Levin will be based out of Suisman Shapiro’s headquarters at Union Plaza 2, offering services as part of a new affiliate practice called Jay B. Levin Government Relations Consulting LLC, the company said in a press release.

He will advise federal, state and local government relations, drawing on his political experience on major Connecticut projects in the areas of infrastructure, energy, urban revitalization, retail and culture.

Levin “will create a strategic link between our practices that will enhance our ability to work together on complex problems for clients, and we look forward to having him back in New London,” said John Collins III, managing director of the law firm.

Levin said he was excited to join his friends at the law firm to serve clients across the state.

According to the press release, Levin’s lobbying clients include PSEG Services Corp. from Newark, NJ; RCI Marine of Miami Beach, Florida; Cross Sound Ferry and Thames Shipyard from New London; Lawrence + Memorial Hospital of New London; the Eastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce; the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association of Washington, DC; and ironworkers locals 15 & 24.
