Law Firm Bond Dickinson wins National Apprenticeship Award

National law firm Bond Dickinson was named Newcomer Large Employer of the Year at the National Apprenticeship Awards.

Organized by the National Apprenticeship Service, the awards recognize the best employers and apprentices in the UK and recognize excellence in companies that nurture their own talents through apprenticeship programs.

Bond Dickinson was one of the first law firms to offer legal apprenticeships. The first apprentices joined the company in 2014. The firm currently employs eleven apprentices, seven as legal apprentices and four more in the firm’s support teams. Following the success of the program, which Bond Dickinson is running in partnership with CILEx Law School, the firm is now introducing additional apprenticeships for other business functions and locations.

The program was named employer of the year at the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives last October and best big newcomer of 2016 at the South West Regional Apprenticeship Awards.

Sam Lee, Head of Recruiting at Bond Dickinson said:

“We hired trainees because it was the right thing to do. for social mobility, improved employee loyalty and for the future of our business. There is a lot of activity around the program in the office as people increasingly see the benefits it can bring. Recruiting trainees as paralegal enables us to attract bright, enthusiastic, and committed people to the law – people who would never have thought before that a legal career would be for them or even possible.

“Apprenticeships also provide great development opportunities for our existing employees and give more junior employees in the company the opportunity to oversee and mentor employees – opportunities that they may not have had before.

“The recognition from the National Apprenticeship Service is huge news for the company. It pays homage to the value trainees bring to our company and to the work the entire company has done to make our program a real success story. “

Sue Husband, Director, National Apprenticeship Service was host at night. She concluded:

“The National Apprenticeship Awards once again highlighted the great range of apprenticeships available – from leading employers in exciting industries – and the skills apprentices acquire in taking on these roles.

“This event gets bigger and better every year and brings the importance of apprenticeships to the fore for the local, regional and national economy. The apprenticeships are there for everyone and I personally thank every employer and apprentice who was recognized at the event on Friday for their commitment to apprenticeship training. “

At the ceremony, Bond Dickinson LLP was also named to the prestigious list of the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers. The list, compiled annually by the National Apprenticeship Service and sponsored by Centrica, recognizes excellence in companies that employ apprentices.

Bond Dickinson provides legal services in a variety of sectors including energy, manufacturing, financial services, insurance, retail, insurance, transportation and personal wealth from seven offices across the UK. It employs more than 1,200 people in Germany.
