Kemp Announces Four Judicial Appointments

Today, Governor Brian P. Kemp announced the appointment of Judge Eric Brewton to the seat of Division I of the Cobb County State Court. Ms. Ashley Palmer to the seat of Division II of the Cobb County State Court; Judge Henry Thompson on the newly created Supreme Court seat of the Cobb Judicial Circuit effective January 1, 2022; and Mrs. Jaret Usher to the seat of Division II of the Cobb County State Court.

Judge Eric Brewton holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and a law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. Judge Brewton was appointed to the Cobb State Court, Seat of Division II, in 2010. He previously served as Staff Counsel for the Travelers Insurance Company. Judge Brewton was also an attorney with Brock, Clay and Rogers, PC. He is a member of the Cobb County Barr Association. Judge Brewton has been involved with East Cobb Young Life and the Johnson Ferry Baptist Church since 1986.

Brewton will fill the position created by the resignation of Judge David Darden.

Mrs. Ashley Palmer holds both a bachelor’s degree and a law degree from Vanderbilt University. She currently serves as a Senior Assistant County Attorney for the Fulton County Attorney’s Office. She previously served as an attorney for the Fulton County Attorney’s Office after serving as assistant defense attorney for the Circuit Public Defender’s Office, Clayton Judicial Circuit. Ms. Palmer also served as an attorney with Powell Goldstein LLP (N / K / A Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner). She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the State School Finals Planning Committee of the High School Mock Trial, and the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys. Ms. Palmer is married to her husband Robert and they have three children: Robert, Ashton and Avery.

Palmer will fill the position created by the appointment of Judge Eric A. Brewton to Cobb State Court, Division I.

Judge Henry Thompson holds a bachelor’s degree from Emory University and a law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. Prior to that, he spent seven years with the Cobb District Attorney, where he served as Senior Assistant District Attorney. Judge Thompson served as a criminal defense attorney with Thompson & Pursley, PC, of ​​Marietta, Georgia, from 2003 to 2006. He previously served as the Assistant District Attorney for the Cobb Judicial Circuit and previously as the Assistant District Attorney for the Western Judicial Circuit. Judge Thompson is married with four children.

Thompson will be appointed to the newly created Supreme Court seat of the Cobb Judicial Circuit effective January 1, 2022.

Mrs. Jaret Usher holds a bachelor’s degree from Kennesaw State University and a law degree from Regent University School of Law. Currently, Ms. Usher is the director of the legal department at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Before that, she was the public prosecutor’s liaison. Ms. Usher also served as the Senior Assistant District Attorney for the Gang Unit in the Cobb Judicial Circuit Office after serving as Assistant General Solicitor for the Cobb Judicial Circuit Office. Prior to becoming Assistant Solicitor General, she was an Associate at Hollberg & Weaver, LLP, and a Staff Attorney at Cobb County Superior Court, Senior Judges Office. Ms. Usher is a member of the Kennesaw State Alumni Board and a member of the Cobb County Bar Association. She is married to her husband Patrick and they have two children: Gabriel and Eli.

Usher will fill the position created by the appointment of Judge Henry Thompson to the newly created seat on the Supreme Court of the Cobb Judicial Circuit effective January 1, 2022.
