Governor Makes Multiple Judicial Appointments

Today Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced appointments to judicial positions across the state.

“I am proud to announce the appointment of these highly qualified individuals and I appreciate the experience they will bring to their respective judicial districts,” said Governor Lee. “I am confident that you will serve Tennessee with integrity.”

The following Tennesseans have been appointed:

Judge Jill Ayers– Court of Appeal, Central District (subject to confirmation by the General Assembly)

C.Christopher Heagerty– 6th Judicial District Chancellery Court

Jerome Melson– 6th judicial district

James “Jimmy” Turner– 16th judicial district

Rebecca Lee– 4. District Defense Counsel

Judge Jill Ayers is a Circuit Court judge in the 19th District. She received her JD from the University of Tennessee College of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Belmont University. Judge Ayers will fill Mr. Thomas Woodall’s position subject to confirmation by the General Assembly.

Christopher Heagerty is a solo practitioner and previously served as an attorney with Hodges, Doughty, and Carson. He earned a JD from the University of Tennessee College of Law and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Heagerty will begin his service on January 23, 2021 following the resignation of Mr. Michael Moyers.

Jerome Melson is an attorney with Gentry, Tipton, and McLemore and was previously an associate professor at the University of Tennessee College of Law. He earned a JD from the University of Tennessee College of Law and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Melson will fill the position of the Honorable Kristi Davis with immediate effect.

James Turner is a partner at Oliver and Turner. He earned his JD from Nashville School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University. Turner will fill the position of the Honorable David Bragg with immediate effect.

Rebecca Lee is a junior lawyer in the 4th District Court. She earned a JD from the Duncan School of Law at Lincoln Memorial University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. Lee will fill Ed Miller’s vacancy with immediate effect.
