Federman & Sherwood File the First Class Action Lawsuit Against Robert Baffert and Zedan Racing Stables

OKLAHOMA CITY – (BUSINESS WIRE) – A group of horse players who had bet on the 2021 Kentucky Derby filed an alleged class action lawsuit against Robert Baffert, the trainer of the horse that finished first in the race, Medina Spirit, and against the owner of the horse, Zedan Racing, a stables.

On May 8, it was announced that Medina Spirit tested positive for the banned drug betamethasone, an anti-inflammatory steroid, in a post-race test.

In 2020, Robert Baffert had four different drug tests after the race positive.

If Medina Spirit is disqualified, the horse placed 2nd in the race, Mandaloun, placed 1st and the finisher placed 3rd in the race, placed 2nd, and each horse promotes. The owners of these horses as well as the trainers and jockeys receive the corresponding shares in the purse. Unfortunately, there is nothing left for the bettors who bet on the horses that actually won, who did not dop.

This lawsuit was filed with the intent to clean up racing, protect the horses, and represent the horse players and fans who are being completely ignored. Without the horse players, horse racing would not exist.

On November 4th last year Robert Baffert published the following press release:

“I want to raise the bar and set the standard for horse safety and compliance in the future. For those of you who were upset about last year’s incidents, I share your disappointment. I humbly swear to do everything in my power to do better. I want my legacy to be making every effort to get the horse and the sport right. ”

The public should be able to rely on these types of statements and assume that trainers and owners are obeying the rules.
